Crying ‘Wolf’, 2022

Yáng:

This project is envisioned by Jingyi (Guccini) Guo, a London-based scenographer who lives with and have done intensive research on chronic pains. She observes people’s reaction towards bodies in pain and sees scepticism, misunderstanding, or condescension caused by misinformation and such. She gives her response and her take on these phenomena and created this work about the importance of witnessing, trust, and sense of control.

Three actresses are invited to play with the set and tell their stories of living with pain. They are Guccini Guo, Siteng Liu, and Audrey Corno.

Yang works with her as a dramaturg to flesh out the story for each actress and as a director to bring the performance alive. They write introductory pack, explains the concept, and facilitates the performers.

They introduce the original story from Aesop’s Fable, explain the core idea that drives the devising process, define the meaning of various elements such as the projection, the physical, and the non-diegetic music, and help performers make the show their own.
Guccini:

What if the Boy who cries wolf wasn’t lying?

What happens when you are being constantly chased by an invisible wolf?

Crying Wolf  is a performance project looking into the topic of chronic pain.

Pain not only affects the body, but also its relationship with the world.

It is a constant need to fight against natural instinct in order to give a performance of “being healthy”. It is a constant need to reveal oneself in order to be believed, and a constant need to Eat.
